The hobby I enjoy the most is birding. The thing is 80% of south african men think I sit on the beach and spy on the girls in their bikini's and that is called "birding"
I remember seeing an illustration showing something similar of what the parent, wife, work colleges and the birder him self think birding is like, but unfortunately I could not find the image after spending 2 hours surfing the net and FB...
Got the following nice one thou! :-)
Birding is actually a spinoff of one of my other bobbies, photography.
I Love the Kruger National Park and always wished (Still Wishing!!!) I had a better camera and longer zoom to take better photos of the wild life I love so much.
The thing with photography is the equipment becomes ridiculously expensive, and you soon realise that you need a bigger hard drive to save all your photos and a better PC to be able to run the editing software and then you find you spend more time editing the photos than what it took to take them in the first place!
Looking back over my life I have attempted my hand at a lot and have enjoyed most of the things I did do. I can not remember my pre-school and very little from my primary school years. All I know from pre-school was that I belonged to a wrestling team according to some certificates that is apparently mine because my name is on them. Primary school I run the 1500m and played chess for the school. In high school I was bullied and my dad thought it good to enrol me for boxing but I loved swimming and cycling. I would spend hours in the public pool and could swim the length of the pool and back with one breath without a problem.
When I started working I upgraded my back paddle bicycle to a 10 speed rally racer and started competing in road races. When I left the Airforce I did the Argus cycle tour (105Km) in 3hrs. During my national defence force year I was the only non licensed rider participating in the defence force national championship and I achieve a halfway position among all the riders. On the one stage race I finished 4th and that was the highlight of my cycling hobby.
While doing my apprentice ship I started doing hiking trails and that was where my love for nature was born. I have done about all the hiking trails in the old Transvaal and done a few long trials in Natal and one in the Cape. The last Big hike I have done was Naukluft hiking trail in Namibia.
I started working closer to the Kruger and started going more often and while siting there waiting for action from the big game to shoot the action I realised there is plenty more action among the birds and the lens started finding them much more often than the leopard and black rhino that I wish I could just see more, not even talking about photographing.
Ok this was to much talking and not saying much. Next post will give more detail about my technical background and what I my plan with this blog is.
Thanks for showing the interest to read to here! Please leave comment to let me know what you think of what I have said and done so far.
